In 1942, Robert J. Oppenheimer was entrusted with the leadership of the Manhattan Project, whose task was to make nuclear fission usable for military purposes. He gets to work with a disparate but equally brilliant team of researchers consisting of Hungarian Jews who fled the Nazis. If they manage to build the bomb, it could end the world war. The new play by “Lehman Brothers” author Stefano Massini tells a complex story about the creation of the first atomic bomb, scientific ambition and human doubts.

In the context of today's political situation, Stefan Bachmann's first production as BURG director is an urgent examination of the questions of progress and responsibility.
