The young American Jonathan Safran Foer travels to Ukraine with an old photo in his luggage. Seen in the picture: Augustine, who is said to have saved Jonathan's Jewish grandfather from the Nazis towards the end of the Second World War. About the search for her and a place called Trachimbrod, where the family comes from, an emotional and crazy story unfolds about misunderstandings, friendships and the fatal axis between past and present.

Director Mina Salehpour and her team focus their work on Jonathan's companion, the Ukrainian interpreter and tour guide Alexander. They are looking for traces of Trachimbrod, a village in what is now Ukraine that was razed to the ground by the Nazis during World War II.
