“Where the ore is buried, where the day never shines, where the bones lie, where no sky cries”: Brixlegg, Tyrol, 1953. Aloisia and Rudolf meet on the platform; she is looking for a father for her daughter, he is looking for a mother for his children via a newspaper ad. Marked by experiences of war, work in the mine and the world of post-war patriarchy in the village, the two decide to live together, to start a new life as a family. The past breaks into their shared life in the form of Aloisia's sister, Herta, as do the repressed traumas of working underground, which keep coming back to consciousness in nightmarish sequences.

The author Lisa Wentz tells of a life that is shaped and dominated by the omnipresent and overpowering Tyrolean mountains, seemingly far away from the world, and yet takes place in the middle of the history of the 20th century: the political events of the time accompany the family cosmos and show the milestones of the changing times in the life stories of the Austrian post-war generations.
