You don't need much brains to be a nice guy.
Migrant workers Lennie and George move through rural California as an unlikely couple. In the shadow of the Great Depression, they dream of a piece of land that belongs to them. But the American Dream is already reserved for others, and George can't save Lennie from getting into new trouble again and again...
In his timeless masterpiece, John Steinbeck describes a society in which the law of the strongest prevails and the already oppressed are increasingly incited against each other and driven into loneliness. At the same time, it is a touching story about a friendship against all odds - and about the tender promise of happiness that always seems possible when we hope together and fantasy defies reality.
Steinbeck, who later won the Nobel Prize, worked as a migrant worker when he was young. His novel Of Mice and Men, published in 1937, was originally conceived as a screenplay or play and was made into a film several times.
