For Marin Alsop, an "absolute commitment to art" and a "pronounced passion to serve the composer's intentions" are essential elements of her job. In 2020, she was invited to the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as Artist in Residence, where she became the first woman in the university's 200-year history to teach orchestral conducting. Honorary membership followed in 2024, not only for her "groundbreaking artistic career" but also for her "incredible, ongoing commitment to supporting young talent." Marin Alsop will now be able to demonstrate this at the helm of the Webern Symphony Orchestra, performing Richard Strauss's extensive symphonic poem "Heldenleben" (Heroic Life) and presenting a freshly printed, award-winning score, the result of the Alban Berg Foundation's composition competition.
