- Peter I. Tschaikowsky Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74 "Pathétique"
The all-time classical hit par excellence is Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique." The fact that Tchaikovsky would have had a difficult time in today's Russia, both as a gay man and as an artist inclined toward Western art music, should not detract from his success. On the contrary: Even during his lifetime, Tchaikovsky often felt offended when accused of orienting himself too strongly towards foreign models. Antonín Dvořák's "Violin Concerto," performed by the young American violinist Maria Ioudenitch, is also melodic and vocal. Her debut album, "Songbird," won the Opus Klassik Award for "Chamber Music Recording of the Year" in 2023.
