"Rejoice, rejoice!" - there is hardly a better way to set the mood for the Christmas season than J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio.
Bach took from the richness of his older compositions, adapted text and melody and thus created an unforgettable work full of musical magnificence and festive glory, full of grace and inner contemplation, the charm of which is impossible to resist. It is without doubt one of the most famous Christmas compositions ever. The first three cantatas of the oratorio, performed in St. Stephen's Cathedral, were composed for the Christmas holidays. Their themes are the birth of Jesus Christ in the stable in Bethlehem, the worship by the shepherds and the three wise men from the Orient.
The Smaragd Choir and Orchestra of the Anton Bruckner Institute of the mdw, conducted by Johannes Hiemetsberger, are looking forward to performing this work in the Advent atmosphere of St. Stephen's Cathedral.
