M. Forster
Translated from american by Hannes Becker
If we can no longer be in conversation with our past, what will our future be? Who are we? And more importantly, who will we become?
Eric, a lovable lawyer, lives in a luxurious apartment on New York's Upper West Side with his self-centered longtime writer friend and fiancé Toby, whose success relies on denying his life story. The impending wedding is shaken by the impending loss of the apartment and Toby's (un)secret obsession with the charismatic actor Adam: a separation occurs. While Toby tries by all means to escape his difficult past, Eric consciously goes in search of his responsibility as part of the gay community.
With his award-winning magnum opus, the American Matthew López has, among other things, Tony Award and Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play - a three-generation drama about the lives of gay men during and after the great HIV epidemic that captivates the audience for several hours.
At the end of the day, each of us just wants to be understood. What connects us is that we all have stories to tell each other; and our willingness or unwillingness to tell them defines our relationships. This is why the theme of legacy is so important to the characters in the play, be it the legacy of the inherited house, the inherited document or the legacy of not being forgotten after death.
Matthew Lopez
Note:
The piece consists of two parts. On weekends you have the opportunity to see both parts as a double performance. On weekdays we show the pieces individually.
