2025 will be the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss' son!

In his honor, our program will only feature music by the "Waltz King" when the soloists of the Vienna Philharmonic traditionally present their waltz concert in the Theater im Park.

Johann Strauss' son lived to the age of 73 and left behind more than 500 works. In addition to his stage works, above all the outstanding "Fledermaus" and many others, it is the great waltzes that are associated with his name and are immortal in the truest sense of the word. In addition to many charming polkas, the Philharmonic ensemble has the famous Stories from the Vienna Woods, Viennese Blood, Artist's Life, the Spring Voices Waltz and, as usual as the crowning finale, the Blue Danube Waltz.

Cornelia Horak is also there as a particularly charming vocal soloist: she shines with the Csardas and the couplet of Prince Orlofsky, two of the most famous numbers from Die Fledermaus, as well as with the charming “Grüss dich Gott, du liebes Nesterl” from the operetta Wiener Blut.

Johann Strauss composed three enchanting romances for a Russian countess he greatly admired. Solo cellist Franz Bartolomey particularly enjoyed playing these romances and often: son Matthias will play one of them in memory of his father, who died last year.

Like the message of the popular and globally broadcast “Great” New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, all participants see the concert as a message of peace for the audience in a time of great unrest and uncertainty.
