The Vienna Berlin Music Club – that’s what the Philharmonix call themselves. Founded by members of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, the Philharmonix play everything they’ve always wanted to. Their trademark: brilliant arrangements, unparalleled virtuosity and, above all, unbridled joy in making music together, which is passed on to the listener in a matter of seconds.

According to the latest estimates, the stylistic mix is made up of 30% classical, 20% jazz, 15% each of folk, pop and Latin, and 5% from other genres. So not everything is classical music. But everything has musical class.

In their brilliant new versions, they extract previously unheard, original aspects from all compositions – and skilfully put together what otherwise doesn’t belong together: In Johann Strauss’ overture to “Die Fledermaus”, “The Third Man” sneaks in after just a few bars. “The Elephant” from Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Carnival of Animals” meets its counterpart from Henry Mancini’s “Baby Elephant Walk”. And over Bach’s C major prelude, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” suddenly shines. Whether the Philharmonix is working on a pop song or a Viennese song, Prokofiev or Tchaikovsky, Gershwin or Piazzolla: classical music couldn’t be more entertaining, entertaining or clever.

Their music is characterized by the sound aesthetics and tradition of the top orchestras they usually work for: Thilo Fechner (viola), Daniel Ottensamer (clarinet) and Ödön Rácz (double bass) play with the Vienna Philharmonic, Stephan Koncz (violoncello) and Noah Bendix-Balgley (violin) with the Berlin Philharmonic. They are joined by the outstanding soloists Christoph Traxler (piano) and Sebastian Gürtler (violin).

The ensemble released their two CDs "The Vienna Berlin Music Club Vol. I" and "The Vienna Berlin Music Club Vol. II" in 2018 and 2019. "Classics without borders" - rarely has a category name been more fitting than in the case of the Philharmonix, who were awarded the OPUS KLASSIK 2018 for their first CD. Their third album "The Vienna Berlin Music Club Vol. III" will be released in 2021.

"Entertainment at the highest imaginable level" (Frederik Hanssen, Der Tagesspiegel)
