The opera “Manon” is a “Tragédie lyrique” by the French opera composer Jules Massenet. Pilippe Gille and Henri Meilhac wrote the libretto based on the novel “L’histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut” by Abbé Prévost. Music stars like Puccini also used the material of Prévost, which led to the increasing competition which displaced Jules Massenet's opera from the big opera houses. Today, however, the work is again part of the classical repertoire of French opera.
