Falstaff is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi with the libretto by Arrigo Boito. The play is based onWilliam Shakespeare’s "The Merry Wives of Windsor". Falstaff, the main character of the opera, seduces, convinced by his own abilities, two women at the same time. He wants to marry both, without them knowing about the love triangle. But when the two women read their love letters to each other by chance, the story takes a turn. Together they plan a revenge on Falstaff.

The opera is Verdi's second comic opera and after Donizetti's “Don Pasquale”, the first successful comic opera since 1843.
