In France 100 years ago: Two small villages have been at loggerheads for generations, although no one knows exactly why. The adults are too busy with farm work and the tavern, and so it is the children who fight this battle. They regularly meet in the forest and fight. Little by little, working together seems to be more important than fighting against each other. However, when there is a final argument, the fun adventure threatens to turn into bitter seriousness.

Der Krieg der Knöpfe was a great success as a novel by Louis Pergaud and has been an integral part of French identity since its film adaptation in 1962, but also a classic of youth literature beyond French borders. The adventure story tells of friendship and enmity, of winning and losing, of small and large children. Johanna Arrouas stages the story with a lot of humor and great emotions in her own stage version.
