When King Hildebrand sets out to defend his fairytale kingdom, his three daughters stay behind. Behind the door of a forbidden room they discover the book of fate. The book prophesies that two of the princesses will have their longed-for princes, while the youngest princess prophesy says that she will marry a pig! But it quickly becomes clear: the grunting, mud-loving little animal is an enchanted prince! Courageous and self-confident, the princess sets out on a journey around the world and fears no danger in order to free her loved one from his curse. On her way she learns a lot about love, friendship, the moon, witches and of course pigs!
With his opera, composed in 2006, Jonathan Dove has created a fast-paced, funny and poetic piece of musical theater for the whole family.
