SORIN: It doesn't work without theater.
TREPLJOW: We need new forms, namely in the theater, in politics, in coexistence and in love.

So it lies there, the lake of dead souls, over which the seagulls circle, free above the people who are bored and do not love, above the artists who fall into routine and do nothing politically against the autocratic tsar - the same thing over and over again for centuries - and then fall into misfortune, desolate like the world:

It lies there lifeless, cold, no people, no artists, no lovers.

Only Nina and Kostja enter the cosmic storm of the world's soul, struggle for visions, search for new forms, throw themselves into the battle of the generations, dare to rebel against established theatre and narrow-minded literature, diva-like mothers, money-grabbing fathers, cynical celebrities and mediocre failures.

And then a seagull is shot and Anton Chekhov's crazy comic-tragic kaleidoscope of humanity explodes - just like the world. And the people stagger towards the abyss.
