Edited for the stage by Georg Schmiedleitner and Sophie Püschel
How the inventive life knows how to make the dreams of our childhood come true.
Felix is a true Sunday child. An emperor who was wrongly born into the bourgeoisie and who already at a young age knows how to use his charm and changeability for his own benefit. He develops from a gifted truant to a lift boy in a luxury hotel in Paris, where he soon becomes everyone's adored favorite waiter. At the height of his dubious "career" he sets off on a trip around the world as a doppelganger of the Marquis de Venosta. Nothing seems to stand in the way of his continuous rise - especially not the nobility and nouveau riche, who are delighted to be deceived by him.
With Felix Krull, Thomas Mann has created a character of extraordinary charisma, hungry for life and love, who celebrates the art of appearances and can cheat his way to the top thanks to classy suits, eloquently displayed half-knowledge and the right amount of criminal energy.
Director Folke Braband, who most recently, among other things, thrilled a wide audience with The Perfect Secret, The First Name and Monsieur Claude and His Daughters, now brings Thomas Mann´s late work, which remains a fragment, to the Kammernspiele.
