13-year-old Emma has to move from Dublin to a small village in northeast Germany.
The abrupt change of location causes her great distress and she hates everything about her new home. Emma misses her grandparents, the English language, but also peppermint chewing gum and even tea bags, which look completely different in Germany. She makes a plan with her new school friend Levin to get back to Dublin. The sea that lies between Emma's new and old home takes on a completely different meaning when Levin's mother suddenly needs help. With fine, poetic language and tonal insight, the piece tells of upheavals and major changes in life, of homesickness and the feeling of being lost in a new environment, but also of the power of friendship and cohesion within a family.
