Alcina (concertante) Theater an der Wien Thu 19.Dec 2024 19:00 replace me !Dramma per musica in three acts
Libretto by Antonio Fanzaglia
A magic opera with magical music: Alcina rules over an island kingdom full of men. But she can only bind her lovers to her through magic. When young Bradamante invades the island kingdom to look for her beloved Ruggiero, true love threatens the love spell. George Frideric Handel's Alcina is one of the highlights of his operatic work. The opera, composed in 1735, contains a lavish abundance of melodies that simultaneously reveal new facets of the characters. Above all, the arias of Alcina, whose power is threatened, are among the greatest psychograms that Handel composed. For the concert performance with the ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro, an exquisite ensemble comes together at the MusikTheater an der Wien, led by Elsa Dreisig as Alcina and Sandrine Piau as Morgana.
