There is war. A mother brings her twin sons from the city to the safety of the countryside to live with their grandmother. There they grow up in poverty, completely on their own. When they part ways at the end of the war - one brother crosses the border, the other stays behind - their life together doesn't let go of them.

Ágota Kristóf, who fled Hungary as a young woman and emigrated to French-speaking Switzerland, tells this story in a compelling and at the same time disturbing way. Mina Salehpour brings Kristóf's novel trilogy, which oscillates between reality and deception, to the stage in poetic images and relies entirely on the power of Kristóf's precise language.
